Peter William Smith

Peter "Pete" William Smith, 79, of Topeka, passed away on April 5, 2021 at his home.

Pete was born on August 28, 1941 to Clyde and Florence (Anderson) Smith in a small town outside of Topeka.

He married Karen Vandiver on March 25, 1962 in Topeka at Second Presbyterian Church. They met each other at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and were married for over 58 years.

Pete worked as a Supervisor/ Production Worker for Goodyear Tire and Rubber for over 33 years, where he later retired. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of South Topeka Gun Club, member of the Rubber Workers Local 307, he made the Goodyear Top 10 Club as a Supervisor, and enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family. Pete was a great baker, and was known for his amazing cinnamon rolls and apple cake. Pete enjoyed the holidays with his grandchildren, where he would dress up as Santa over the years.
Pete and his wife would volunteer as cooks at Bybee's Farm for different events that were held. He also was a huge Kansas State University fan.

Pete is survived by his children, Paul (Angela) Smith, Chris (Beth) Smith, Troy Smith, and Brandy (Sean) Pekarek; 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; Sisters, Betty Waser, Ruth Blauw, and Florence "Flossie" Kersten.

He was preceded in death by his loving Wife, Karen Smith, both of his parents, Sisters, Norma Dietzman, Myrtle Buck, and Leatha Jansen; and his Grandson, Christopher Smith

Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at Rochester Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the National Wildlife Federation at PO Box 1583, Merrifield VA 22116-1583.
