OBITUARY: Peter John Weigel
Peter John Weigel, 82, Topeka, passed away Monday, August 29, 2005 at his home in North Topeka. He was born March 31, 1923 in Topeka, the son of Peter John, Sr. and Florence (Ehrhart) Weigel.
He lived in North Topeka all his life, and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He attended St. Joseph School, and graduated from Topeka Catholic High School.
He was in the military from 1943 to 1952. He served in the 7th Army Corps; 256th Combat Engineering Unit in the Atlanta Theater during World War II and with the Military Police Unit during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the City of Topeka for ten years, and then the State of Kansas until his retirement. He had been a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.
He is survived by two sisters, Magdalena Guyer and Elizabeth Roderick, both of Topeka, and four nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Weigel, in 1978.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Thurs., Sept. 1, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Weigel will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wed. at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
