Penny Sue Helmick
Penny Sue Helmick, 48, Topeka, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 29, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She was born February 22, 1968, in Wichita, the daughter of Bryce Duane and Lois Mae (Jones) Stallard.
Penny graduated from Seaman High School and Washburn University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication. She worked for the State of Kansas, Disability Determination Services in Topeka and the Social Security Administration in Kansas City, MO.
Penny enjoyed her family and friends more than anything. Many family gatherings were enjoyed at Penny's home. Traveling with friends was a much anticipated event. She put her heart into every undertaking. Penny was the historian for all. There wasn't a detail she couldn't remember, especially music and movies. She will be greatly missed.
Penny's faith was very important to her. She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church, where she was part of the communication ministry and involved in small groups. She also volunteered for the Girl Scouts and many activities for the Shawnee Heights Schools.
Penny was married to Gary Lee Helmick on October 24, 2003, in Topeka.
Surviving are her husband: Gary of the home; children: Joel Snyder,24, of Topeka, Justin Snyder, 19, of Topeka, Mya Helmick, 10, of the home, and Brody Helmick, 8, of the home; step-son: Garry Helmick of Topeka; her mother: Lois Stallard of Topeka; siblings: Sheryl Mathis of Topeka, Sondra Blessing of Lawrence, and Mark Stallard and wife, Kathleen, of Overland Park; and nieces and nephews: Brent Mathis and wife, Jules, and children, Leighton and Sydney, Allie Singh and husband, Anish, Emily Blessing, Nick Blessing, Walt Stallard, and Nate Stallard.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Fellowship Bible Church, 6800 SW Tenth Street, Topeka. Interment will be in Underwood Cemetery, Williamstown.
Penny will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tuesday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
