Peace A. Poyner-Goodman

Peace A. Poyner-Goodman, age 25, of Topeka, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 in Topeka.  Peace was born March 19, 1995 in Topeka the daughter of Brian and Stephenie (Poyner) Markham.  Peace graduated from Riverside High School.  She worked various places such as Subway and Kwik Shop in Topeka.  She is survived by her parents, Brian Markham, Stephenie Markham, Ann Goodman (adopted mother); grandparents, Alberta Shipley and Howard Poyner; two sisters, Patience and Hope Goodman, and many friends and her dog, Icen.

She will lie in state Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Davidson Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.  davidsonfuneral.com.

A Grandmother’s Perspective of Peace

Peace is my first granddaughter. When she was a little girl, she was a precious and shy angel. As she grew up, she became more inquisitive and troubled by a void in her life, and a strong desire to be loved. As a teenager she was adventurous and experimental. Pretty normal for a teenager. But she also exposed a dark angry side. As she grew into a young woman she became more of a rebel. She lived her life on the edge and made dangerous choices. She has a taste for the bad boy image and was expecting to find love. That dark side would not allow that to happen. Even though she had a soft heart and would do anything for anybody she would push family and friends away with her outburst in order to protect herself from getting hurt. I don’t think she ever felt that she belonged. She made her choices and lived her life her way, but the outcome was inevitable. The first part of a very famous song explains a lot about Peace and how she lived her life. “Like A Candle In The Wind”. There are not too many things in life that are for certain but the one thing I am certain of is that she knew I loved her will all my heart! She was born March 19, 1995 and died December 11, 2020.
