Pauline Amelia Swank
Pauline Amelia Swank, 92, Topeka, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Swank worked at Stormont-Vail Hospital from 1949 to 1957 and was a nurses assistant at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1957 to 1975. She was a foster parent for the Kansas Childrens Service League in the early 1940s for several years. She was born Nov. 6, 1910, in Hamburg, Iowa, the daughter of Charles F. and Harriett Nenneman Guinn. She lived most her life in Topeka. Mrs. Swank was a member of Potwin Presbyterian Church Nobelles, Topeka Chapter No. 462 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Social Order of the Beauceant Chapter No. 24 and she served as past president of and member of Lazy Daises Garden Club. She married Clarence C. Swank on March 28, 1926, in Topeka. He died April 22, 1980. Mrs. Swank also was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Beasterfeld; a granddaughter, Jenna Swank; a grandson, Gary Beasterfeld; and a sister, Mildred Guinn. Survivors include two sons, Robert Swank, in New York, and Edward Swank, Lyndon; a daughter, Edith Schleif, Belvue; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Order of the Eastern Star Services will be conducted by Topeka Chapter No. 462. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Swank will lie in state at the mortuary after 3 p.m. Thursday, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 2200 S.W.
