Paul Lavon Alfrey, 90, of Topeka, passed away June 8, 2020.
He was born September 19, 1929, in Newman, Kansas, the son of Mannie and Edna (Smith) Alfrey. He grew up on a farm in the Grantville and Perry areas, graduating from Perry High School in 1948.
He worked as a Machine Operator for Dupont.
Paul married Dawna Jean Feb 29,1948. She proceeded him in death in 1988. He then married Anna Mae Cloud and Cleo King both who preceded him in death
Paul was active in his community, volunteering at Harvesters and attending the Family Church of God.
Paul loved guitar playing and enjoyed bluegrass. He would often go with a group and play at prisons and assisted living facilities amongst many other places that needed their spirits lifted through music. Paul enjoyed the local music scene and was a member of the Kansas Prairie Pickers Association, meeting and playing with other acoustic musicians once a month.
An outdoorsman, Paul greatly enjoyed gardening, boating, and fishing. He was also a clock repairman and enthusiast.
Paul would do anything for anybody and will be remembered as a kind and gentle man with a generous heart.
Paul is survived by his children, Ronald (Dawna) Alfrey, Tecumseh; Steven (Karen) Alfrey, Auburn; Daniel Alfrey, Topeka; and Pamela (Scott) Goodman; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold Alfrey, Herbert Alfrey, and Everitt Alfrey.
Friends are invited to the in-state from 12:00PM to 7:30PM, with family present from 6:30PM to 7:30PM on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Due to COVID-19 private services will be held.
