Ora M. Allen, 95, of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015.
Ora Maxine Allen, 95, formerly of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Leonardville Nursing Home in Leonardville, KS.
She was born August 9, 1919 in Jewell County, Kansas, the daughter of Jackson and Florence (Conklin) Gavin. She grew up and attended all her school years grade and high school in Formoso, Kansas, graduating in 1938. She completed Cosmetology School in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a member of the Rolling Hills Christian Church in Topeka and a former member of the Formoso Christian Church.
Ora married Ray C. Allen on December 20, 1939 in Concordia, KS. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2002.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis (Jerry) Williams, Lawrence, and Janet (Gary) Habluetzel, Clay Center; two sons, Richard (D'Ann) Allen, Seneca and Donald (Donica) Allen, Topeka; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Gavin, Edmonds, WA.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Gavin, in 2004.
A committal service will be at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Topeka Cemetery Garden Chapel, 1601 SE 10th Street, Topeka. Ora will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
