Olive Marie (Schirmer) Taylor, 94, passed away November 15, 2020.
She was born July 3, 1926, in Douglas County, Kansas, the daughter of George and Ora (Bryson) Schirmer. She attended and graduated from Overbrook High School and later Washburn University.
Upon graduating from Washburn University, she taught at Twin Mounds School in Douglas County. After a time, she left teaching and moved to Topeka. Olive, with her sister Ruth Raab, started R & O Snack Shop on North Kansas Avenue in North Topeka. From there Olive went to work in the office at the Santa Fe Railroad.
After Olive left Santa Fe, she was a homemaker for several years before re-entering the workforce at the Kansas Department of Revenue. She was at Kansas Department of Revenue until she retired from there.
Olive married Rex Duane Taylor on August 8, 1946. He passed away on March 13, 2013.
Olive enjoyed painting, bowling, cooking, gardening and working with flowers. More than anything, she loved spending time with her pets and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Olive was skilled at cross stitching, crocheting and sewing. She often gave wonderful homemade gifts like cross stitched sweatshirts, sewed items and food that she canned herself.
Olive always had a smile and food to share with others. She made sure that no one would leave her house hungry. She was an independently minded person and loved doing for others. She cared deeply for her family and friends and would want them to know that she loved them unconditionally.
Olive is survived by her children, Sherryl (David) Mohler and Rick (Ramona) Taylor; grandchildren, Patrick (Sarah) Hodgson, Tim Hodgson, Sean (Holly) Taylor, and Brian Taylor; great-grandchildren, Gavin Hodgson, Gwen Hodgson, Gabriel Hodgson, and Samuel Taylor; two sister-in-laws, Carolyn Taylor and Betty Schirmer.
