OBITUARY: Norman R. "Mike" Green
Norman Ray "Mike" Green, 87, Topeka, died Sat., Aug. 30, 2008, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. He was born June 2, 1921, at Sturgis, KY, the son of Jonas and Lura (West) Green. The family moved to Kansas in 1929 and he grew up in Silver Lake.
Norman served as a U.S. Army Staff Sgt. in the Big Red One during World War II. He was awarded multiple bronze stars and the Croix de Guerre for his service. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He married Beth J. Herbert on Nov. 16, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter: Judy Miller of Topeka; 3 grandchildren: Jason Miller of Thompson's Station, TN, Lyndsey Stamper of Olathe, and Brady Miller of Manhattan; and 3 great-grandchildren: Kayla and Ashley Miller and Hank Stamper.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Tues., Sept. 2, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. The Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard will conduct military honors at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Norman will lie in state after 3:00 PM Mon. at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 PM, Tues.
