Norma Jean Hollis
Norma Jean Hollis, 92, Topeka, took her last breath on earth and her first breath in Heaven on Friday, December 26, 2014, at her home. She was born February 18, 1922, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Albert Ernest and Myrtle Fern (Norman) Behrens.
She attended Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and Central Bible Institute at Springfield, Missouri. She had lived in Piedmont before moving to Topeka in 1945. Norma and her husband co-founded Faith Assembly of God Church, later to become Faith Family Life Centre.
Norma was married to Oliver William Hollis on August 10, 1943, in Oswego, Kansas. Rev. Hollis preceded her in death on December 16, 2012.
Surviving are a daughter: Cheryl Joy Altom (Jerry) of Grand Prairie, TX; two sons: Stephen Lee Hollis (Barbara) of Evergreen, AL, and Reverend Philip Eugene Hollis (Sheila) of Topeka; sister: Mary Louise Sprague-Wilson of Showlow, AZ; a brother: Wayne Behrens of Kansas City, KS; eight grandchildren: Stephen, Daric, Jason, Brandon and Scott Hollis, Stacee Verkon, Chantell Liles, and Serena Matthews; and nineteen great-grandchildren: William, Liam, Garrett, Avery, Dane, Bodhi, Sloan, London, Sophia, and Greenly Hollis, Breanna, Kenner, Margaret, and Rennyn Verkon, Jayson, Amelia, and Micah Liles, and Maddux and Madison Matthews. She was preceded in death by a son: Larry Dean Hollis on March 13, 1982 and a grandson, Devon Dean Hollis, on May 16, 2001.
Memorial celebration of life will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Faith Family Life Centre, 3710 NW Topeka Blvd., Topeka. Interment in West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 SW Auburn Road, Topeka. Norma will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
