OBITUARY: Norma G. "Gwen" Davies
Our beloved mother, Gwen, 82, peacefully passed Fri., Nov. 23, 2007, at her Topeka home.
She was born in Decatur, AL, on March 15, 1925, the only child of Leslie D. and Mattie Lou (McKnight) Strickland. They moved to Akron, OH, when she was young. She moved to Topeka in 1945 and had lived in Meriden for 10 years before returning to Topeka. She owned and operated the "Dine A Bite Cafe" in Auburn along with her long-time friend, Shirley Jacobson, in the early 70's. She retired from Josten's in 1997. She also waitressed at Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley and McFarland's Restaurant. She was an avid bowler for many years. She was a 50 year member of Meriden Chapter # 399, O.E.S.
Gwen is survived by her son: William L. Davies and his wife, Betty, of Phoenix, AZ; her daughter: Andrea N. Holt and her husband, Lynn, of Tecumseh; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:00 PM, Wed., Nov. 28, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, followed by Eastern Star Services conducted by Meriden Chapter # 399, O.E.S. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. Gwen will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
