Nina Ruth Skidmore

Nina Ruth Skidmore, 89, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at a local hospital.

Nina was born June 27, 1934, in Douglas Wyoming, the daughter of Charles and Phyllis (Brown) Ham. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1952 and Washburn University in 1981.

She was an Alterationist at Pelletier's and later worked as an Accountant for the State of Kansas, Department of Corrections, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the North Topeka Baptist Church and later Westside Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, North Topeka Historical Society, NOTOMA, and a Papan's Landing Board Member.

Nina married Forrest Skidmore on July 1, 1952, in Topeka. He died January 17, 2012. Survivors include son, Forrest Skidmore II, Topeka; daughter, Valerie McGee, Yates Center; grandchildren, Melanie (Matt) McKay, Tonganoxie, Kyle (Rachel) McGee, Yates Center, Brett (Niki) McGee, Hesston; great grandchildren, Miles McKay, Harper, Carson, Stetson, Hayes and Blair McGee; sister, Evelyn Gwin, Hot Springs, VA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was also preceded in death by an unnamed baby girl; siblings, Douglas Hamm, Charles Hamm, Vivian Petrovich and Jeanie Lawson Miller; and son-in-law, Ronald McGee.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence. The family will greet friends following the service. Private family inurnment will be in Rochester Cemetery.
