Niclolas Herman "Nick" Tibbs
Nicholas Herman "Nick" Tibbs, 77, Topeka, KS was hugged by Jesus on June 6, 2013 at his home. Family was by his side. He was born November 10, 1935, at Ceres, Virginia, the son of John Herman and Loma Helena (Atwell) Tibbs. Nick graduated from Ceres High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for over 12 years, having served in Vietnam and Okinawa. He was discharged on January 26, 1968. Nick retired from Cla-Mar. He grew up in the Methodist Church in Virginia. He was a member of Philip Billard Post # 1650, V.F.W.
Nick was married to Velata Vey Langley on October 26, 1957, in Seaman Congregation Church, North Topeka.
He is survived by his wife: Velata of the home; children: Debi and Mark Harvey of Topeka, and Jeff and Yolla Tibbs of Kansas City, MO; a sister: Erma Smith ; 4 grandchildren: Rachel Hutchison, Amanda Harvey, Caleb Harvey, and Andrew Tibbs; and 5 great-grandchildren: Brandon Harvey, Shannon Harvey, Emma Hutchison, Lily Hutchison, and Maggie Hutchison. He was preceded in death by a grandson: Nathan Harvey in 2005; his parents; and five brothers: Adrian Tibbs, Dean Tibbs, Troy Tibbs, Nelson Tibbs, and Kenneth Tibbs.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Potwin Presbyterian Church, 400 SW Washburn, Topeka, KS. Interment in Eskridge Cemetery, Eskridge, KS; where a U.S. Air Force Detail will conduct military honors.
Nick will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
