Nicholas A. "Nick" Calabrese, Jr., 70, of Topeka, went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Topeka on January 25, 1948, the son of Nicholas and Lucille (McCleery) Calabrese. He was a 1966 graduate of Seaman High School and attended art classes at Washburn University. He served as a navy medic during the Vietnam Conflict.
He married Donna Johnson on April 8, 1977 in Topeka. For several years, he was a partner in ownership and management of D'Nick's Deli in Topeka. Nick retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in 2014 after thirty years of employment as a stationary engineer.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and had served as a Trustee, Awana leader, and drove the Awana bus for over thirty years. He greatly enjoyed his hobby of hunting for arrowheads and artifacts, and his yearly search for morel mushrooms.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Housholder, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Calabrese; sisters Tena (Jim) Bengtson and Theresa (Jerry) Droge; sons Zeke (Heidi) Calabrese and Corey (Leslie) Calabrese; daughter Angela Calabrese-Cain; grandchildren Phillip, Mikey, and Nicole Cain, and Isaac and Chloe Calabrese; and eleven nieces and nephews.
Nick will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church, 4011 N Kansas Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Newman, Kansas.
