Nicholas A. Calabrese, age 93, of Topeka, passed away April 6, 2015 at his home.
Nicholas was born July 30, 1921 in Geneva, New York to Michael and Catherine Calabrese. He was employed with Falley's Grocery for more than 32 years retiring in 1982. Mr. Calabrese served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II from 1942 until 1946.
Nicholas was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church, Topeka, a member of the American Legion Post 400 and Papan's Landing Senior Center, in Topeka. He was one the founders and a member of Topeka Downtown Farmer's Market for 32 years.
In addition to his parents, Nicholas was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucille of 64 years, a daughter, Kathleen, 9 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his children, Tena (Jim) Bengtson, Nick A. (Donna) Calabrese, Jr., and Theresa (Gerald) Droge, all of Topeka; his brother, Anthony Calabrese, Lyons, NY; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Calabrese will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Avenue, Topeka, where a rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Celebration will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2015 at Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church, 204 SW 8th Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka.
