Nelson "Wayne" Lucas, 80 of Topeka, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013.
He was born December 25, 1932 in Silver Lake, Kansas, the son of Harry and LaVerna M. (Clark) Lucas. He was a graduate of Seaman High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Lucas was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Northland Christian Church, the Rubber Workers Union, Local No. 307 and a Life Member of VFW Post No. 2187.
Wayne married Ramona R. Atchison on August 12, 1956 in Eureka, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Lori Morneault of San Bernardino, CA and Kristy (Ira) Fiero, Topeka; five grandchildren, Brandon Durrant, Sarah Anderson, Emily Sawyer, Miranda Fiero and Abbigail Williams; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Lucas of Topeka; and a brother, Paul Lucas of Topeka.
A funeral ceremony will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at the Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Wayne will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66604.
