Naomi M. Castleberry, a beloved figure in her community and a treasured matriarch of her family, passed away on February 6, 2025, in Meriden, Kansas, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 4, 1936, in Osawatomie, Kansas, Naomi lived a full life, marked by dedication to her family, her work, and her community.
For over three decades, Naomi served as a purchasing agent for Midwest Machine Works, demonstrating her unwavering commitment and work ethic. Later in life, she co-owned Earl’s Cafe alongside her husband, Earl, for eight memorable years. Their partnership in business was a reflection of the deep love and teamwork they shared throughout their marriage, which began on June 1, 1952. Earl, who preceded her on February 10, 2018, remained an integral part of her life and memories.
Naomi wore many hats, but perhaps her most cherished role was that of a mother and grandmother. She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Debbie (Calvin) Kirkham, Cindy (Terry) Mongold, and Cherry (Gene) Vaught, instilling values of kindness and resilience in each of them. As a grandmother, she reveled in the joy brought by her grandchildren—Julie (Chad) Lux, Jammie (Marc) Serrano, Lisa Mongold, Nick Mongold, and Lacey (Max) Roberts—who were a source of immense pride and affection. Naomi's legacy will continue through her 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
A member of the Grantville United Methodist Church, she found joy and fulfillment in her faith and community. Naomi was easy-going yet had an ornery side that drew laughter and warmth from those around her. She loved cooking and frequently spoiled her family, often sneaking treats to the horses and indulging in her favorite peanut butter M&Ms and Wendy's chocolate frosties. In her younger years, she found joy in sewing and took pleasure in the simple joys of nature, often spending time outdoors, picking up sticks.
Naomi's life was rich with love, laughter, and connection. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Gertrude (White) Fields, her siblings Berdean Hayworth, Inez Beets, Wayne Fields, and Shirley McCoach, who will embrace her in eternal love.
Her family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Naomi's extraordinary life at Grantville United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 1:00 PM and the funeral service following at 2:00 PM on February 13, 2025. A graveside service will follow at Grantville Cemetery in Grantville.
Naomi M. Castleberry leaves behind a legacy of love that will resonate deeply within her family and community. Her spirit will be fondly remembered, and she will be dearly missed.
