Dr. N. Bruce Henoch


Dr. N. Bruce Henoch, 76, Topeka, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at his home in Topeka.
Dr. Henoch served in the Army during World War II. He taught and coached sports in Horton. Dr. Henoch was a junior high principal and coach in Atchison. He moved to Topeka in 1963, where he was a principal at Northern Hills Junior High School and later served as assistant superintendent and superintendent of Seaman Unified School District 345. He retired in 1988.

He was born June 14, 1926, in Enterprise, the son of Frank E. and Ruth Stadtner Henoch. Dr. Henoch graduated from The University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in science and later earned his master's degree and doctorate in education.

Dr. Henoch was a member of First United Methodist Church in Topeka and Topeka North Post. No. 400 of the American Legion. He was a former member and past president of the North Topeka Kiwanis Club, past Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis, Moose Lodge No. 555 and Kansas Educators Club. Dr. Henoch was past president of the Kansas Association of School Administrators, Topeka Jayhawk Club, Knife and Fork Club, Topeka Community Concert, and was a life member of the KU Alumni Association and Horton Lodge No. 326 AF&AM.

He married June Cochren on June 24, 1945 in Whiting. She died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003. A son, Richard B. Henoch, died Jan. 27, 1994.

Survivors include a son, Rex W. Henoch, Olathe; a daughter, Donna Karlen, Olathe; two brothers, Dean Henoch, Emporia, and Richard Henoch, Lenexa; two sisters, Frances Rutz, Pearl, Miss., and Ruthalene Hopkins, Hesston; and two grandchildren.

There will be a double service for Mr. and Mrs. Henoch at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 600 S.W. Topeka Blvd. They will lie in state after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery.
