Myrtle Maxine Ellen Flowers, 85, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012.
She was born February 23, 1926 in Vinland, KS, the daughter of Oscar Fredrick and Nancy Belle (Timmons) Brandenburg, Sr. She was a 1943 graduate of Topeka High School.
Mrs. Flowers was a member of Northland Christian Church, Moose Lodge No. 555, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a "Navy and Marine Mother".
Myrtle married Maurice Edward Flowers on March 5, 1943 in Council Bluffs, IA. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1996. Survivors include a son, Clifford (Lynda) Flowers; two daughters, Virginia Ellen (Alan) Best and Patricia Maxine Johnson, all of Topeka; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ted Brandenburg, Jackson, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kenneth William Flowers on March 7, 1964, seven brothers, Lloyd, Donald, Oscar, George, James and John Brandenburg and Billy Timmons and a sister, Shirley Schimmel.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Myrtle will lie in state after 1 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care of Kansas, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
