Myrtle Marie Edwards, 92, Topeka, passed away on September 27, 2006.
She was born November 30, 1913, in Linwood, KS the daughter of Clinton Earl and Ida Bertha (Pennington) Chance. She attended the local schools, graduating from Linwood Rural High School in 1931.
On January 20, 1934 she was united in marriage to Forrest E. Edwards at Manhattan, KS.
Myrtle was baptized at the First Christian Church in Junction City, KS on February 23, 1933, later transferring her membership to the Central Avenue Christian Church in Topeka, which later became the Northland Christian Church and was an active member of the Golden Age Club until her health declined. She was a 50 year member of Helena Chapter #210, Order of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies were making handmade quilts and embroidering. She enjoyed traveling and meeting new friends on the spring mystery trips for 17 years. She also volunteered for many years in the Senior Program at Pappans Landing and regularly attended the East Topeka Senior Center.
She is survived by three daughters; Edna and son-in-law, Max Long of Abilene, Norma and son-in-law, Jim Cobler, and Glenda, all of Topeka; three sons, Forrest and daughter-in-law Judy of Palmer, Alaska, Clinton and daughter-in-law, Kay, Mountain Home, Arkansas and Tommy, Topeka. Myrtle had fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Archie Chance, Easton, Kansas and Leonard Chance, Naples, Florida. Also three step grandsons and eight step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons and a daughter in infancy, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Mortuary, 245 NW Independence. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Sydney cemetery in Linwood, Kansas. Myrtle will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday and family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Sheltered Living Inc. to benefit the Drury Lane House.
