Muriel Sara Morgan
Muriel Sara Morgan, 87, Topeka, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She was born March 16, 1929, at Emporia, the daughter of Wilbur and Grace (Morris) Sutton.
Muriel was a graduate of Emporia State University and Washburn University. She was a teacher in USD 501 for 23 years, retiring in 1993. She taught at Parkdale Elementary, McCarter Elementary, and Landon Middle School. She then volunteered at TPAC, St. Francis Hospital and Topeka Public Library.
Muriel was active in Crestview United Methodist, Topeka Chapter #462, OES (Past Worthy Matron), Loyal Chapter #176, OES, Past Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem #7, Past Lady Superior of Ancient Toltec Rite, Topeka Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (Past Chapter Regent).
She was married to Robert William Morgan on September 3, 1950, in Emporia. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jon Morgan, on February 5, 2002.
Surviving are three children: Kevin Morgan (Carol) of Topeka, Deaun Petersen of Overland Park, and Joyce McConnell of Topeka; and three grandchildren: Kristine McConnell, Michael Petersen and Eric Petersen.
Funeral services will be at 9:00 AM, Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, KS 66608, followed by services conducted by Loyal Chapter #176, OES and Topeka Chapter DAR. Committal services will be at 12:00 noon at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 2000 Prairie Street, Emporia.
Muriel will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Friday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
