Mrs. "Jimmie" Kathryn Owen, 100, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Aldersgate Village.
She was born September 5, A Labor Day Baby, 1910 at Cleburne, TX, the daughter of Charles Myrtle and Mae (Adams) Jackson. She and her family moved to Topeka in 1921.
Jimmie was married to Howard Curtis Owen on November 28, 1929 in Topeka. They were married for 67 years before he preceded her in death on January 16, 1997. Survivors include a son, H. "Dean" Owen, Topeka; a daughter, Kay M. Reed, Topeka; 5 grandchildren, Scott Reed, Topeka, Kelly Owen,Topeka, Kristy Keller, Laramie, WY, Korey Owen,Sr., Topeka, and Kacey Cattoor, Topeka; 8 great-grandchildren, Taylor Keller, US Army, Ft. Carson, CO, Tanner Keller, Laramie, WY, Tucker Keller, Laramie, WY, Kyle Owen, Topeka, Allison Owen, Topeka, Korey Owen,Jr., Topeka, Kaley Cattoor, Topeka, and Colton Cattoor, Topeka a great-great-granddaughter, Lillie Owen, Topeka and Patsy Patterson (mother of grandchildren). She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Happy McNair, Murl Frampton, Helen Quinn, and Louel Weil.
She enjoyed cooking, especally southern cooking and celebrated every New Year with Black Eyed Peas, Ambrosia, Rice Potatoes and Cracklin Cornbread. She also enjoyed St. Patrick's Day, making Blarney Stones from scratch, but her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, turkey and all the fixins.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
