OBITUARY: Morris Elwood Persing
Morris Elwood Persing, 84, Meriden, died Sunday, March 26, 2005, at Colmery-O'Neill VAMC. He was born July 13, 1921 at Ozawkie the son of Samuel E. and Bertha (Chatham) Persing.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was an infantry cannon crewman for the 9th Infantry Division. He was a dairy farmer and retired from Essex Wire. He maintained the Meriden Cemetery for 30 years. Morris was a member of the Meriden Community Church and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Roy, Melvin, and Edward; and 2 sisters: Helen Persing and Gladys Duggan.
Surviving are his wife: Melba Irene (Cunning) Persing of the home; 2 sons: Douglas Persing of Meriden and Thomas Persing of Oskaloosa; 2 daughters: Linda McNutt of Spring, TX and Jennifer Persing of Meriden; 4 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Sat., April 1, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence. Interment will be in Meriden Cemetery. Morris will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
