Mitchell B. Beemer

Mitchell Brice Beemer (Mitch), 57 of Topeka, KS, passed away on November 20, 2023.  Mitch’s life story began on January 10, 1966 in Emporia, KS, born to the parents of Robert E. Beemer (Bob) and Wanda L. Beemer (Jones).  He was the second of four children that would challenge the skill and fortitude of the Beemer household for decades to come.

After moving to Dodge City when he was three years old, throughout his elementary and adolescent years, Mitch excelled at school, loved science, and was usually up for an adventure, if not instigating one.  He loved to laugh, had a quick sense of humor, and cared deeply for his friends and family.  Mitch’s closest friends until the end, were friendships that began in high school and endured the ages.

Upon graduating from high school, Mitch managed a couple of local restaurants, then moved to Denver, where he met his wife, Shelly Songer, in 1988.  Mitch and Shelly were married August 3, 1991 and lived in the Denver area until the birth of their oldest son, Joshua in 1995.  Shortly after Joshua was born, they returned to Dodge City, where Mitch worked as a Private Investigator, and they brought two more children into the family, Kassady in 2000 and Nicholas in 2001.

Mitch returned to college at Washburn University in Topeka and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice in 2008.  With the family all in Topeka, he worked at KVC assisting in foster care services, then joined the KBI working in the IT/Data services teams.

Some of the things Mitch loved to do involved working on cars, fishing, tinkering with computers, and debating anything and everything.  He always had something to fix or take apart, and was always willing to teach it, more than just do it.  His ability to tackle anything will be deeply missed.

Mitch is survived by his wife Shelly, sons Joshua and Nicholas, and daughter Kassady all of Topeka.  He is survived by other immediate family members, including two brothers, Rex Beemer and wife Wendy Navarro of Cimmaron, Kansas, Todd Beemer and wife Angela of Grantville, sister Angela Beemer of Topeka, and his father and mother Bob and Wanda Beemer, also of Topeka.

A visitation will be held Tuesday December 5th from 2pm – 4pm, at Northland Christian Church in Topeka.
