Milton Eugene Ferguson passed this life at 4:45 am on August 2, 2015 at Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Milton (Gene) was born in Silver Lake, KS on September 6, 1930, the son of Oscar and Aline Ferguson.
He grew up in Silver Lake, graduating from Silver Lake High School in 1948.
He married his forever love, Frances Kirkwood, on June 6, 1954 at Bethel Church, just north of Topeka, Kansas. They celebrated 62 years together. He and Frances were members of Bethel Church. He taught Sunday school and served as Sunday School Superintendent and Church Board President at different times. He and Frances were youth group leaders for 6 years. The high point during that time was the baptism of 7 of the youth, including his two sons, at a farm pond in the Bethel Community.
Milton served as Sergeant First Class with the Fifth Army Ready Reserve 305th Signal Corp. Battalion for 6 years. The unit was never activated.
He decided not to attend college, but to work at as many different jobs over 5 years to learn which vocation to pursue. He worked for 5 different companies until he accepted an entry level position with Southwestern Bell. He worked up to become Manager of Data Processing and was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma as Accounting Office Manager responsible for establishing an Eastern Division. He later returned to Topeka to work for Fleming Companies and was responsible for installing Data Processing in most of the Fleming divisions throughout the United States. He transferred to Oklahoma City with the move of the corporate office. He retired, after 28 years of service, in 1989 at the age of 59 as Director of Systems Services.
He was a member of Data Processing Management Association for many years, serving as Treasurer with other duties. He completed Accounting, Business Law and other management courses at Washburn and Kansas Universities. However, his family always came first. He declined promotions that would have transferred him, and his family, to St. Louis, Dallas, and San Francisco during his career.
After retiring, he served 3 years as Office Administrator for Spring Creek Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. At Spring Creek, he also served as a Deacon and worked with the youth. Later, he and Frances joined the United Methodist Church of The Servant. He served as President and Program Chairman for Prime Time, a senior group, for 3 years and worked special events with the Children's Ministries.
Milton liked most sports, especially bowling, basketball, ice skating and fishing. His hobbies included gardening, landscaping and refurbishing old tractors. Earlier in life, he owned a 1948 Farmall Model A, a 1946 John Deere Model B, and a 1945 Allis Chalmers Model C.
