Mildred M. Wege, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital with her daughter and dear friend Gail Micetich by her side.
Mildred was born January 5, 1925 in Topeka, the daughter of Roy and Lula (Klamm) Pendleton. Mrs. Wege attended Rice Elementary School in Topeka.
Mildred married Allen M. Bayless in 1942. They later divorced. She married Norbit Wege August 16, 1946. He preceded her in death February 1, 2002. Her brother Norman Pendleton also preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by her son, Tom (Deb) Bayless, Arcadia, CA; her daughter, Becky Remy, Topeka, KS; her grandchildren, Scott (Katy) Bayless, Glendora, CA; and Lisa (Jay) Orlandi, Burbank, CA; and her great grandsons, Jack and Cole Bayless. She will be greatly missed by her family, many longtime friends and especially her cat Buster.
She and her husband were loving foster parents to over 200 children. Mildred was an avid gardener and she shared this passion with her longtime neighbor and dear friend, Agnes Sanders. In her later years she turned her sewing skills to quilt making, providing lasting memories for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. with her close friend Mary Pasia.
Mrs. Wege will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
