Mildred "Millie" F. Wray, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022.
She was born January 15, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of William and Elva (Rich) Tipton. She was a graduate of Topeka High School, received her bachelor's degree in education and her master's degree in literacy. Millie married Charles Lee Wray on August 26, 1960 in Topeka. Together they had four children.
Millie began her teaching career in Oklahoma City, OK, and also taught in Keokuk, IA. Her final teaching position was in the Royal Valley school district north of Topeka from which she retired in 1999.
She grew up attending the Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, where she learned to use her vocal talents to sing specials and also lead the choir. Following their move from the Oakland Community, Millie and Charles were members of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene and later Family Life Nazarene.
Millie cared about everyone. She made sure her children went to church every Sunday. She loved singing and had a beautiful mezzo-soprano voice. Millie loved oil painting, gardening, watching birds, and playing church softball earlier in life. She was a Sunday Crossword Puzzle enthusiast and very talented competitor in Scrabble and Words With Friends. Millie loved her family and hosting big family reunions. She loved all people (especially babies) and most of all her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Millie is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Charles; children, Dan (Lori) Wray, Charla (Tony) Adame, Shelly (Matt) Bradford, and Ben (Joy) Wray; grandchildren, Monica (Sean) Phinney, Morgan Bradford, Tessa Wray, Blake Bradford, Chris Shaner, Trevor Wray, Andrew Wray, Zachary Shaner, Tristan Wray, Bethany Wray, Griffin Wray, and Jacob Wray; great grandchildren, Ryland Phinney and Mylynn Wray; and a host of extended family.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; siblings, William "Gene", Marguerite, Louise, Richard "Dick", Don, Virgil, Gerald "Jerry", James "Jim", Cecil, Betty, and Robert.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Parker-Price Funeral Home.
Memorial services will follow at 11:00 am at the Parker-Price Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Kansans For Life.
