Mildred Helen (Moegling) Tyler, 93, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013.
She was born October 31, 1920, in rural Ozawkie, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Georgia (Rittel) Moegling. She was a 1938 graduate of Horton High School.
Mrs. Tyler was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, of Topeka. A member, co-founder and was an active volunteer for many events of the Sunflower Sod Stompers of Topeka, and a member of the Leavenworth JayWalkers, and Rail Splitters of Springfield, Illinois. Mildred volunteered her services at many other walking events. She was also a member of the Topeka Gem and Mineral Society for many years and was a Girl Scout Leader.
Mildred married Junior Wallace "J.W." Tyler on November 27, 1941 in Horton, KS. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Terri Lynn Tyler, Topeka; a brother, Fred Moegling, El Paso, TX; nieces and nephews, including Dale Moegling, Pinehurst, NC, Meredith Lyons, San Antonio, TX and Sharon Decker, Newton, KS and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Alice Resch and Bessie Clark.
Mildred enjoyed KU Basketball and Football, attending many games. She was a homemaker who liked to cook, flower gardening, and was an avid collector. She also enjoyed reading traveling and decorating for the Christmas season. Through Volkswalking she visited all 50 states and parts of Europe.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the KU Endowment Memorial Giving, (memo line: KU Softball), P.O.
