Mike R. Blanding, 79, Kansas City, formerly of Silver Lake, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020.
He was born April 7, 1940, in Barnard, Kansas, the son of Floyd and Marjorie (Hood) Blanding. He graduated from Barnard High School in 1958. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University. Mike was a US Navy veteran.
He was an insurance agent in Topeka for many years. Later, he was mail carrier for the Silver Lake Post Office. After retiring, he began working part-time at Lowe's in Topeka.
Mike was a member of Silver Lake United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Silver Lake.
In August 1963, he married Marilyn Kay Husted in Minneapolis, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
On August 7, 1999, he married Peggy Joyce Herbel in Silver Lake, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Mitch (Shelly) Blanding and Monte Blanding, all of Lenexa, KS; brother, Don Blanding, Moore, OK; four grandchildren, Brianna, Dalton, Max, and Leo Blanding; 3 step-children, Randy (Amy) Herbel, Rhonda (Joel) Eckelman, and Royce Herbel; 11 step-grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mike enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and was an avid K-State fan.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Parker-Price Reception Center, 1940 NW Central Ave., Topeka. (Directly south of the funeral home). Private services and interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery.
