Michael K. "Spot" Kesel, found his forever wings on the evening of Thursday, February 3rd, 2022, as he was attempting to make his way home to Flagler Beach, FL., on his motorcycle.
Riding and that wind therapy was something he always loved. Some of his other loves are the children and grandchildren he leaves behind, a legacy he was always proud of.
Spot was born in Syracuse, NY, on February 22, 1956 to Truman and Faith Kesel. They had both preceded him in death. He leaves behind his wife Evelyn Frazier, of Oneonta, NY., his loving children, Michael Jr. (Kris), of Mayetta, KS., and daughter Melanie Gordon (Ryan), of Topeka, KS., his grandchildren Alayna, Alexia, Paxton, and Lennon. He is also survived by his step sons: Bruce (Jenn), Joseph (Lauren) and Michael (Katie) Skellie and his 5 step grandchildren: Nathan, Noah, Lily, Jack and Olivia.
He lived part time in Oneonta, NY and was a "snowbird" in Flagler Beach, FL. He came to Kansas as often as he could and that was always a place he called home. Mike had intentions of living full time in his RV and following the warm (riding) weather. He had been stationed in Kansas in the army many years back, and after meeting his first wife Sherry Kesel of Topeka, he planted those solid roots in Kansas. Much later in life he reconnected with his high school sweetie, Evelyn, and they were married in 2010.
His biggest joy in life beyond family was his motorcycles. He was proud of the many miles he put on his bikes and was also an exceptionally skilled rider. He didn't believe in trailering a motorcycle and chose two wheels every chance he could. Mike was also a proud veteran, skilled handyman, great cook, EBL brother, ABATE member and the best friend so many asked for.
Spot lived the life he wanted. He worked and played on his own terms. His hard work and determination when he was younger, afforded him the freedom to choose the remainder of his days, as he saw fit. When to travel, where he wanted to go, what he wanted to do, and to just be in the moments HE wanted. This was a life well lived. He loved freely, he hugged greatly, and he gave whenever he could. He leaves this place with big shoes to fill, and an amazing legacy.
Celebration of Life gathering will be Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Oneonta American Legion. Located at 279 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, New York.
