Michael (Mike) A. Lake, Sr., age 68, of Topeka, KS, died Friday, April 30, 2021 at a local hospital. He was born July 20, 1952 in Topeka, KS, the son of the late LeRoy C. and Lena E. Newton Lake. Mike grew up in the Topeka area where he attended Topeka Public Schools. Michael married Debbra A. Biggs Lake November 30, 1975 in Grantville, KS. She preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mike was preceded in death by four brothers, LeRoy Lake, Harold Lake, Daryl Lake, and Ronald Lake; four sisters, LaVonne Lake, Beth Ann Lake, Shirley Berry, and Ruth Grissom.
He is survived by two sons “Little” Mike (Nikki) Lake, Jr. of Olathe, KS, and Allen (Cynthia) Lake; two daughters, Tammy Bell, and Rita (Jermy) Hockett, all of Topeka; four sisters, Sharon Coffman, Doris Baker and Rita Hendrix of Topeka, Marilyn Turnage of Ayden, North Carolina; one brother, Steven Dean (Darlene) Lake of Ayden, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Chelsea, Colby (Jaileen), Brandon, Maranda, Nathaniel, Jordan, Madison, Johnny, Blaise, Devon (Dallas), Tomasa, Anthony; one great grandson, Liam.
Mike loved to be with his grandkids. He even had a nickname for each one. Mike and Debbie shared a life of 45 years together. They were “old-time” gamers with Mike always “winning” Yahtzee, rummy, and marbles. Mike admired Debbie and longed to be with her once again.
Celebration of Life graveside services for Michael and Debbra will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Perry Cemetery.
