OBITUARY: Michael Lee Tyler
Michael Lee Tyler, 56, Berryton, passed away Tues., March 4, 2008, at Hospice House with his loving wife at his side. He was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was born Aug. 22, 1951, in Hutchinson, the son of Ralph Wilmont and Bette Ann (Rogers) Tyler. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1969, and attended Hutchinson Community College. He married Laura Ediger in 1971. They had a daughter, Lea Hope, and a son, Zackery Ryan. They later divorced and he moved to Topeka. On August 2, 1982, he was united in marriage to Donice Kay (Payne) Currie of Tecumseh. They became parents of a daughter, Meagan Renee.
Michael worked for Westar Energy at Jeffery Energy Center, 1977-79, in mechanical maintenance. He was a journeyman I&C technician at Tecumseh Energy Center from 1979, until his retirement in 2006. After retirement, he worked part-time at the Clinton Wildlife Area.
Michael was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #304. He was a silver life member of THE Archery Club, Kansas Bowhunters Association, certified Bowhunter Education program instructor, and hunter education instructor. Michael loved everything about the outdoors – hunting, 3D archery, fishing, mountain biking, and ice hockey, which he began after age 50.
Michael was preceded in death by his father in 1997. He is survived by his mother, his wife, two daughters, and one son. He is also survived by his sister, Jo Lea Marlow, and her husband, Dustin, Citrus Heights, CA, and a nephew, Derec Dade Marlow, McLouth.
A memorial service will be 9:30 am, Sat., March 8, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Michael requested a tree be planted in his memory at donor's choice of location or memorial contributions to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606-2800.
