Michael J. Degand, Jr.

Michael J. Degand, Jr., 84, of Topeka passed away on March 12, 2024. Mr. Degand was born September 27, 1939 in Topeka the son of Michael and Virginia (Beard) Degand, Sr. He was raised in Little Russia. Mike attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Hayden High School. He lived in North Topeka most of his life. He served in the United States Army. Mike was Crew Leader, operating equipment for the City of Topeka for over 35 years before retiring. He was a member of the Sacred Heart-St. Joseph Catholic Parish and faithfully attended mass at Sacred Heart for many years. Mike was also a member of Post #400 of the American Legion.

On October 2, 1964 he was united in marriage to Gracie Busey. They enjoyed over 45 years together as husband and wife. Gracie passed away on December 3, 2009.

Survivors include his son, Michael J. Degand III of Topeka; daughter, Michelle Degand Lopez of Topeka; seven grandchildren which include granddaughter Sidney Michelle Lopez and adopted grandson, Mikey Degand; two brothers, Phil Degand and Bert Degand (Viola); and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother George Degand.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Graveside Services and Interment with military honors conducted by Post #400 of the American Legion will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday March 19th at the church, from 4-7 pm where a rosary will be recited beginning at 5:30 pm. Memorials to Sacred Heart-St. Joseph Parish.
