Merrill D. "Bud" Day, 87, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Bud was born October 26, 1925 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Howard and Bessie (Frost) Day. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He worked for K. P. & L. and later owned Day's Septic Cleaning. He loved auctions, goats and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He married Pauline R. Bower on February 12, 1949, she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Susan Metzger, Debra (Tony) Webster and a son, Gary (D.J.) Day, all of Topeka; 8 grandchildren, Chris (Jamie) Stuke, Misty (Shane) Adamson, Matt Stuke, David (Meredith) Holland, Regina (Matt) Hollar, Danielle (Tanner) Shaw, Kari (Donnell) Smith and Tosha (Adam) Webster-Ross and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patricia Ritchie and brother, William "Bill" Day.
Bud will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka.
