Melvin Rex "Mel" James
Melvin Rex "Mel" James, 83, Topeka died Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born January 10, 1934, at Topeka, the son of John Nathan and Grace Lea (Smith) James.
Rex graduated from Seaman High School in 1953, and immediately went to work for the Kansas State Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM; Arab Shriners; Faith Family Life Center; and the YMCA.
A sister-in-law and several cousins survive.
A celebration of life will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Penwell-Gabel Reception Center, 1940 NW Central Avenue, Topeka. Private interment of cremains will be in the Valley Falls Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the YMCA Youth Fund, 421 SW VanBuren, Topeka, KS 66603.
