Melvin E. Brown, 92, Topeka, died Feb. 2, 2005 at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 23, 1912 in Gentry County, Missouri the son of Herbert A. and Verdie Jane (Lykins) Brown.
He retired from Hill's Pet Products in 1975 after 31 years of service. He married Mary Jane Leonard on Oct. 18, 1937 in Vancouver, Washington she survives of the home.
Melvin was preceded in death by a brother, John Brown and a sister Lela Good.
Other survivors include, three daughters, Melba Nicol, Mayetta; Marvella Bailey, Ft. Worth, TX; Marvellee Self, Topeka; one brother, Dale Brown, Parnell, MO; 2 sisters, Faye Austin, Branson, MO; Verlene Vance, Maryville, MO; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Interment will be in Half-Day Cemetery. Mr. Brown will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
