OBITUARY: Melba Irene Persing
Melba Irene Persing, 83, Meriden, died Mon., Sept. 28, 2009, at her home. She was born Nov. 16, 1925, at Rock Creek, the second daughter of Roy and Anna (Ammen) Cunning. She graduated from Rock Creek High School and was a member of Meriden Community Church. The Jefferson County Commission appointed Melba to serve on the Board of Directors for the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging. She was a farm wife and retired from Jefferson Co. RWD # 1. She and her husband maintained the Meriden Cemetery for 30 years. Melba was married to Morris E. Persing, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2006. Surviving are a daughter: Jennifer Persing of the home; 2 sons: Douglas Persing of Meriden and Thomas Persing of Topeka; a step-daughter: Linda McNutt of Spring, TX; a sister Adalee Moffit of Meriden; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Oct. 1, 2009, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Interment in Meriden Cemetery. Melba will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wed., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
