Melba Eileen File, 87, of Topeka, passed away Friday, September 18, 2009.
She was born June 20, 1922 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Melvin and Rose Nell (Castler) Slater.
She was a member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church.
Melba married James File on September 30, 1942 in Wichita, KS. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hilary Anne File. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Lafferty and Linda Morstorf; and a son, Jim File, all of Topeka; six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Meriden Cemetery, Meriden, KS. Mrs. File will lie in state from 3-9 p.m., Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, KS 66604.
