Max E. Wilcox, 87, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, at his home.
He was born September 22, 1920, in Abilene, KS, the son of Edward and Hazel Hobble Wilcox. Max was a 1938 graduate of Topeka High School and a 1941 graduate of Strickler's Business College. He had resided in San Diego, CA, and Little Rock, AR, until returning to Topeka in 1948.
He was a military veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Mr. Wilcox was the President and owner of Coachlight Village Mobile Home Park as well as Wilcox Trailer Sales, originally established as R. K. Trailer Sales in 1949.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the North Topeka Kiwanis Club and the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in founding the Kansas Manufactured Housing Assoc., served as its president, and was a long term board member and supporter of the manufactured housing and RV industry.
Max married Jean Linge February 6, 1943, in San Diego, CA. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Diana K. Christman, Topeka; Robert E. Wilcox, Shawnee Mission, KS and Sandra L. Chapman, Emigrant, MT; his sisters, Polly Wilson, Wichita, KS, Patty Peddicord, Edmond, OK; his grandchildren, Cathy DiLeo and Steve Christman and 3 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Sat., May 10, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 4125 S.W. Gage Center Dr., Topeka, 66604 or to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Cr., Topeka, KS 66606.
