Maurice John Minihan

May 24, 1935 — December 6, 2017

Maurice J. Minihan, age 82 passed away December 6, 2017 at Brewster Place in Topeka.  Maurice was born May 24, 1935 in Blaine, Kansas the son of John and Lillian Smith Minihan.  Maurice grew up in the Blaine, Kansas area, graduating from Blaine High School in 1953.  He married Anna Jean Garies May 30, 1960 in Flush, Kansas.  He worked for Southwest Bell Telephone for over 31 years.  He later owned and operated Minihan Construction Company and farmed north of Topeka. Maurice was a member of the Mother Teresa Catholic Church, Sunrise Optimist and the AT&T Pioneers.

Maurice was a loving husband, father and family man. He devoted his life to hard work and assisting others with their needs.  You could always find him at his grandkid’s events sometimes straight from the field in his work clothes and dusty baseball hat.  On many occasions he would pick up the grandkids in his farm truck and take them to Petro Deli to enjoy chicken gizzards and ice cream.

Throughout his life he was very close to his siblings and their families and always looking forward to extended family gatherings.

Maurice’s work as a contractor burying telephone cable in Northeast Kansas took him to various places and he was known by many in his red semi-truck and trailer.

He is survived by his wife, Ann of over 57 years; two sons, Ron (Staci) Minihan of Topeka, Bill (Sara) Minihan of Benton, Kentucky; a daughter, Mauri Ann Ann (Jay) Domer of Topeka; three brothers, Francis Minihan of Blaine, KS, James Minihan of Huntington Beach, CA and Kenneth Minihan of Valley Center, KS; four sisters, Dorothy Leeker of Wichita, Phyllis Hasenkamp of Centralia, Catherine Harkness of Wamego and Jo Anne Minihan of Topeka and five grandchildren who he was very proud of, Collin (Tawni) Domer, Morgan (Dane) Simoneau, Ryan Domer, Sam Minihan and Ethan Minihan.
