Mary W. Thomasson

Mary W. (Cohee) Thomasson, 83, of Topeka, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023.

She was born November 26, 1940, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of William and Vera (Lamb) Cohee. She attended Highland Park High School.

Mary worked for Elks Club as a waitress with her family when she was younger and eventually worked her way up to become a manager. She also worked at the Alco in North Topeka and at St. Francis Hospital as a Surgical Technician. After leaving St. Francis Hospital, she began working for the State of Kansas as a Tax Examiner. She dedicated 22 years of service to the state and retired in 2003.

Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren. When not spending time with her family, Mary enjoyed working in her rock garden, collecting dolls and dancing. She truly knew how to cut a rug! Mary liked listening to Elvis. She was known as the neighborhood grandma when she lived in Little Russia. Mary was a crazy cat lady.

She leaves behind her children, Jon (Lynn) Brown and Lloyd (Catherine) Brown; her grandchildren, Cortney, Destini, Ty, Cody, Emma, Lanna and Charlii; eleven great grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren; her siblings, Barbara Mercer and Terry Cohee. She was preceded in death by her children, Deborah Kay Ippolito, Billy Brown and Joey Brown; grandson, Richard Ippolito; her parents and siblings, Bill Cohee, Betty Henderson, Lester Cohee and Larry Cohee.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS. A Funeral Ceremony will be 11:00 am., Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, in Topeka.  Memorial contributions may be made to Mary’s family and sent to Davidson Funeral Home.
