Mary Simmons

Mary Elizabeth (Rose) Simmons passed away Tuesday September 19, 2023 at home after a short bout with cancer. Her daughter Tamara was by her side. Mary was born to William Gene Rose Sr. and Annabelle Lavina Reedy Rose July 03 1944 in Topeka, KS. She married Terry A. Simmons September 17, 1994 and enjoyed 29 years together.

Mary worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield retiring after 26 years of service. She was also a teacher’s aid and excelled in English and Grammar. She enjoyed reading Nonfiction and watching birds out her window. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery and collected Boyd’s Bears. She was proud of the fact that she was present at each of her Grandchildren and great grandchildren’s births.

Mary came from a large family with 12 siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William Gene (Buzz) Rose Jr., and a son James Edward Pennington. Left to cherish Mary’s memories are her husband Terry A. Simmons of the home, two daughters Kathy (Pennington) Richter, Tamara Munoz, Siblings Michael A. Rose, Jerry Arthur Rose, Margaret S. (Rose) Terrel, Yvonne M. Rose, Kenneth L. Rose, Vickie A. Rose, Dennis W. Rose, Tracy Steven Rose, Barbara J. (Rose) Krahn, Sherry D. (Rose) Steinbock, Annette Louise (Rose) Amezcua, four grandchildren: Cody Pennington and wife Felicia, Devin Pennington and Significant Other Osby Hunter,  Aleescia Munoz, Kelsie Richter and eight great grandchildren: Ezekiel Pennington, Isiah Pennington, Mar’kai Bailey, Gauge Pennington, Paisley Pennington, Gemma Pennington, Oakley Hunter and Brooklyn Clark.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am Tuesday September 26, 2023 at Davidson Funeral Home. Mary will be cremated and remains given to family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Helping Hands Humane Society, or to plant a tree.
