Topeka

Mary Louise Riniker, a spirited and caring individual, was born on June 19, 1945, in Westmoreland, Kansas. She passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in Topeka.

She was dedicated to caring for residents in nursing homes throughout the Topeka area, a role she thoroughly enjoyed until her retirement. Her passion for helping others was evident in every interaction, and she was known for her fun-loving spirit, infectious sense of humor, and ability to connect with anyone she met. Mary was someone who never knew a stranger and didn't know how to whisper.

Throughout her life, Mary created cherished memories with her family. She delighted in giving gifts making sure everyone  felt included. Her enthusiasm for shopping on Black Friday became a tradition, as did her annual practice of sending birthday and Christmas cards to loved ones. Mary's hobbies included enjoying a cold Dr. Pepper, collecting Longaberger baskets, watching Westerns, and cheering on contestants on Wheel of Fortune.

Mary took great pride in her family, particularly her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and bonus grand children. She expressed her love and affection for them, relishing in their accomplishments and milestones. Her legacy continues through her children: her son, Douglas Bergman (Vicky) of Lawrence, Kansas; and her daughter, Sara Rose (Chris) of Hoyt, Kansas. Mary also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren—Cheyenne Bergman of Meriden, Kansas; Gage Bergman, currently stationed in Turkey as a member of the United States Air Force; Hillari Lynn (Daniel) of Topeka, Kansas; and Katlyn Morgan (Jerry Freed) of Topeka, Kansas. Additionally, she is survived by five great-grandchildren: Korbin, Kaiden, Amelia, Harper, and Huntley, as well as a baby due in March.  Additionally, she has a loving bonus family that includes Pamela Rodecap and children Jessica, Austin, Mercedes, Bentlee, Leo, and Zaylee, who all held a special place in her heart.

Mary is also remembered by her siblings: Charley Gros (Diane) of Paxico, Kansas; Regina Butts (Bob) of Mayetta, Kansas; Laura Seward (Kevin) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Lucy Gros of Kansas City, Missouri. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews..

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Martina Gros, her sister, Helen Sanker and her brother, Larry Gros.
