Mary Maxine Fowler, 87, of Topeka, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013.
She spent her early years in Lecompton, KS. She was a 1943 graduate of Topeka High School and attended Clark's Business School.
Mrs. Fowler was employed by the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center for 23 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of Northland Christian Church and the Topeaks Camping Club of Topeka.
Mary married George D. Fowler on August 3, 1949 in Topeka. During George's service in the U.S A.F., as a military family they lived in Albuquerque, NM, Saxilby, England, Great Falls, MT and Lubbock, TX. After her retirement, she and George enjoyed time with their RV and their friends in the Southwest part of the United States.
George preceded her in death on August 4, 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Mary (David) Walker, Topeka and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Mary was an avid KU Sports Fan and enjoyed visiting the Casino.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton, KS. Mary will lie in state from 3-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
