Mary Lee Ticknor, 88, Topeka, died Mon., May 1, 2006. Born April 19,. 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Gordon R. Jones and Pearl Williams Jones.
Mrs. Ticknor was highly successful and deeply loved in her vocation as homemaker, wife, and mother. She was also very skilled in her avocation, Real Estate. A loving example to her family and friends, she extended her selfless nature by actively raising three foster children, in addition to her own two sons.
Mrs. Ticknor was married to Kenneth L. Ticknor in Topeka on May 21, 1938, a marriage celebrting 68 years. Her husband, Kenneth, survives her in death. She is also survived by a son, Kenneth W. Ticknor, and his wife, Judith, Topeka, a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Ticknor Holmes, Tucson, Arizona, three foster children, Karen Stanley, Stan Stanley and Tony Stanley, all of Topeka. In addition, she is survived by four grandchildren, Kenneth S. Ticknor, Tammy Rheinsmith, Lisa D'Andrea, and Steven Ticknor, and one foster grandchild, Michelle Stanley. She also leaves a legacy of love to seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ticknor was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Ticknor, and two brothers: Gerald G. Jones and Donald M. Jones.
Committal services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thurs., May 4, 2006, at Mount Hope Abbey Chapel. Entombment will be in Mount Hope Mausoleum. Mrs. Ticknor will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Wed., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence where the family will receive friends 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
