OBITUARY: Mrs. Mary Louise Cozad
Mrs. Mary Louise Cozad, 93, Topeka, died Tues., March 14, 2006, at The Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born July 11, 1912, in Topeka, the daughter of William and Katie Oneal. In 1931, she was a member of the last class to graduate form the old Topeka High School on 8th street. She was baptized at Euclid Methodist Church in Topeka.
Mrs. Cozad married Roy Cozad on March 10, 1934. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1989. They lived in Topeka until 1940 when they moved to California. During World War II, Mr. Cozad joined the Navy, and Mrs. Cozad worked at Lockheed Air as a "Rosie the Riveter." She later was a supervisor at General Motors until 1961 shen she and her husband moved to Sunrise Beach, MO where they owned and operated the Hickory Point Resort. In 1966, they retired in Silver Lake, KS.
Mrs. Cozad was a member of Silver Lake Citizens Center, Silver Lake Community Club, and XYZ Club.
Preceding her death were three brothers: Glen, Lawrence, and Ralph Oneal, two sisters: Thelma Udey and Dorothy Richardson.
She was like a second Mother and Grandmother to Jackie and Bob Shaw, Silver Lake, Tim and Sheila Shaw and Arisa, Wichita, Traci and Don Thornton and Tyler, Dustin and Jaylie, Manhattan, John and Margo Shaw and Courtney and Ryan, Olathe, other survivors are: Patti Albin,Topeka, Larry Matney, Topeka, Bob and Karen Cronkhite, Topeka, Mary Lou and Neal Harding, Mayetta, Glenna and Dan Mahoney, Santa Maria, CA, Ronald and Virginia Oneal, CA, Carl Wilcox, Springfield, MO, Mary Ross, Lawrence, Newton and Sue Gossett, CO, and Barbara Cotts, Denver.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Sat., March 18, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Cozad will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
