Mary I Hudson, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Oakley Place Rossville.
Mary Irene Hudson was born Christmas Day 12/25/1933 to Paul and Nellie Irene (Gibson) Martin in Rossville, Kansas. Mary was the oldest of 10 children and attended Rossville Grade and High Schools, graduating RHS in 1951. She later attended Kansas State University. Mary was a USPS rural mail carrier for 32 years. Receiving the recognition of USPS Kansas rural mail carrier of the year in 1995. She retired in 1999.
Mary married Duane M Hudson November 28, 1953, at Topeka KS. They had two children, Kristie Lyn Hudson Brunker and Kevin D. Hudson. They lived in the Seaman area of Topeka. Mary and Duane were active members of the Pleasant Hills United Methodist Church until Mary relocated to Rossville then she enjoyed her new church family at Rossville United Methodist Church.
Mary enjoyed hosting and serving her guests’ favorite dishes, especially during holidays and birthdays. She loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids unconditionally and always made time for them.
Survivors are Kevin D. (Lynette) Hudson, Topeka, KS. Grandchildren, Julie (Jon) Hellstern, Stephanie (Jeremy) Franz, all of Overland Park KS, Andrew Hudson and Leah Hudson, Topeka, KS. Great grandchildren Anna and Chloe Hellstern, Tucker, Remington and Madisyn Franz all of Overland Park. Son-in-law Joe Brunker, Overland Park. Siblings are Pauline Bickford, Manhattan, KS, Henry (Carol) Martin, Hesston, KS, and CD Martin, McPherson, KS. Sister-in-laws Linda Hudson, Burlington, KS, Karen Martin, McPherson and Deanne Martin, Hutchinson, KS. Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mary received great care from the Oakley Place Care Team and she considered them family also.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Duane M. Hudson, daughter Kristie Lyn (Hudson) Brunker, siblings Tim Martin, Paul Martin Jr., Wallace Martin, Steven Martin, baby girl Martin and baby boy Martin. Brother in laws Merlin Hays, Larry Hudson, Clifford Bickford. Sister-in-laws Shirley R. Hudson, Eileen (Cookie) Martin, Virginia Hays and Diane Martin.
Funeral service will be 11 am Monday, August 5, 2024 at Rossville United Methodist Church, 411 Pearl St, Rossville, KS. Visitation will be prior at 10 am. A lunch will follow at the CPN building at Rossville and interment will follow at the Rossville Cemetery.
