Mary Ella Tenpenny
Mary Ella Tenpenny, 90, Topeka, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at Brewster Health Center. She was born July 3, 1922, in Topeka, the daughter of Raymond Emmett and Wilhelmena Adeline "Minnie" (Bleier) Higgs.
She graduated from Topeka High School. She worked at Wild Willie's and retired from Ed Marling's. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church and North Topeka Saddle Club.
She was married to Taylor A. Tenpenny on February 22, 1947, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1993. She was also preceded in death by two sons: Arthur Dale in 1960, and Duane Lee in 1997. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Kenneth Higgs and R. Dale Higgs; and a sister: Wilma Gilmore.
Surviving are four sons: Michael Tenpenny (Deborah) of Hoyt, Eric "Chief" Tenpenny (Carol) of Valley Falls, Robert Tenpenny of Auburn, and William (Carol Ann) Tenpenny of Topeka; eleven grandchildren: Justin Tenpenny, Penny Jo Tenpenny, Jay Schmidt, Ben Tenpenny, Deanna Dawson, Brad Tenpenny, Travis Tenpenny, Leah Wilson, Ty Tenpenny, Alexa Tenpenny, and Samantha Tenpenny; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th , Topeka. Mary will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Home Health and Hospice, Jefferson County Senior Bath Program, 1212 Walnut – U.S. Highway 59, Oskaloosa, KS 66066-4200.
