Mary Jane "Janie" Byers, 90, Topeka, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018.

She was born March 31, 1928, in Oskaloosa, Kansas, the daughter of Charles "Ned" and Aileen (Smith) Rice. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1946.

Mary was employed by the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 165 for 19 years, retiring on June 15, 1987. She was a member of OPEIU - Office and Professional Employees International Union.

She was married to Donald L. Byers in 1948 and they later divorced. Survivors include three children: Stephen Byers, Pamela (Jerry) Solis and Kristine Fuqua; granddaughters: Stacey Byers, Rachael Solis, Jessea Solis; two great-granddaughters: Mayah Solis and Asha Solis; great-great granddaughter: Abryell Grame; and sister-in-law: Lila Rice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Arnold Rice and granddaughter, Shawna Solis.
Mary enjoyed cross word puzzles and gardening.

A reception will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Parker-Price Reception Center, 1940 NW Central Ave, Topeka.

Private graveside services will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
