Mary Elizabeth (Swords) Blair, 81 Years, of Topeka, passed away December 31, 2023, surrounded by her family.
She was born September 28, 1942, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the daughter of Donald and Helen Mae (Runice) Swords. She was a graduate of Logan High School, La Crosse, Wisconsin and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Adult and Continuing Education, from Kansas State University.
Mary was a Registered Nurse employed by Memorial, St. Francis, and Stormont Vail Hospital during her years of service. She was also very patriotic, loved her country and worked for two senators as an Administrative Assistant at the State Capitol in Topeka, Ks.
She was a member of Lambda Tau Sorority, Red Hat Society and served on the Board for NE Parkinson's Foundation in Topeka, Ks.
Mary enjoyed shopping, bingo, bowling, Chiefs Football and KU Basketball, crossword puzzles, scrabble, sewing, reading, crafts, her virtual bible studies with her friends and she loved spending time with family and friends.
Mary was married to William E. McDaniel, and later married James "Jim" E. Blair in 1982. Mary was preceded in death by her husband on February 18, 2011, and also by her step-daughter, Tracy Blair and parents, Donald and Helen Mae Swords. Survivors include her brother Donald Swords, Jr., sister, Nancy (Jerry) Hendrickson, daughters, Shanna Burgardt of Topeka and Carrie (Randy) Daniels of Ozawkie; her son, Wil McDaniel of Topeka; her step-daughter, Jamie (Lorene Kahler) Blair of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren, Aspen Burgardt, Josh Wellman, Caitlin Chambers, Crystal (Nick) Puglisi, Aleck James Alexander, Michelle (Justin) Mackey, Mike Daniels and four great-grandchild, Luca Puglisi, Kenzi and Riley Prato, and Logan Mackey.
Honoring her request, cremation is planned. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka Kansas, where a celebration of life ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends following the ceremony.
Mary's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
